Visit of Deaconess Grace Rao
08/07/2010
Grace Rao, deaconess of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Human Care & World Relief, has been on an eight-day visit to Lithuania (27 April to 4 May). The main objective of her visit was to gather first-hand information about the Lithuanian Lutheran Church and social work carried out by the Church. Dcs. Grace Rao was especially interested in projects run by the Church aimed at helping women and children.
With this aim in mind, the Dcs. Grace Rao travelled to the parishes of Šakiai, Jurbarkas, Šilutė, Kretinga and Palanga. Apart from numerous meetings with the representatives from the Lithuanian Lutheran Church and diaconal services, she also visited social security departments at local municipalities and met the mayor of Šakiai Juozas Bertašius.
It is expected that this visit will promote the development of the relationship between Lithuanian diaconal structures and the LCMS Human Care& World Relief, which in turn will lead to a closer cooperation in rendering assistance to those in need in various spheres of life.
